A full weekend of entertainment including live music, beer festival at the Varsity, ferret racing, Shire horse rides, craft stalls, food and drink and a performance of 'Times Don't Change' a street play written to commemorate the execution of James Stanley, 7th Earl Of Derby.
Wednesday 15th July 7.30pm - Rivington Morris Team dancing on Churchgate
These demure cultured women hail from Bolton in Lancashire. Their clogs have been heard as far afield as Sidmouth, Germany, France, Holmfirth, Wigan, Accrington and Blackrod Carnival. Hundreds have looked on in awe and marvelled at their stunning stepping, precision, music and reinforced foundation garments. Twee they are not! Come see for yourself.
Friday 28th August - Bolton Ale Trail comes to Ye Olde Man & Scythe
This Food & Drink Festival favourite returns again as Blue Badge Guide and ale aficionado, Ray Hoerty guides you around Bolton town centre pubs, past and present. The trail concludes with a pint of ale and Bolton Hotpot at Ye Olde Man and Scythe. Phone 01204 334400 for tickets. Friday 18th September 10.30pm till 5.00am - Supernatural Tours A night long ghost hunt led by professional medium and guide at Ye Olde Wench & Trinkets and Ye Old Man & Scythe. £35 per person. Saturday 19th September - Morris Dancing Festival The refurbished Churchgate is being used again on Saturday for a colourful and lively event. Morris men and women will be dancing in the street from 11am - 4pm. You can meet and talk to the performers and musicians in the Man & Scythe Pub. Be aware, they talk better if you buy them a drink! Saturday 17th October - Churchgate Street Play & Markets James Stanley the 7th Earl Of Derby was be-headed on Churchgate in October 1651. With the help of local historian, David Casserly, we wrote a play about it! We thought we might as well make a day of it, so we are now in the planning stages of this popular Bolton event. There will be craft stalls, food and drink, street entertainment, live music and a hot mulled wine and cider tent. The play starts at 2.00pm.
